I stood in the darkness,
A voyeur on the patio.
A cynic at a human zoo.
Safely curious, beyond
The one way pane, of how people do.
Until Awe dropped my jaw for this couple...
They laughed
They played
They smiled
They touched
They felt
Each other seeming careless
And some how carefully.
And then on came their song
And they began to dance
And they moved together
So sweetly syncopated that
The glasses the tables the walls
The ceiling the building the everyone
And the everything
Just melted away.
And when the music ended,
They didn't stop
Laughing
Playing
Smiling
Touching
Feeling
They didn't stop dancing.
I shuddered and shook my head
To clear the Gilliam vision,
I heard Psyche whisper in my ear:
"Now do you See?"
I was witnessing a Lover's Dance.
I was enlightened and dumbstruck
And woefully aware that
I was the one
On the other side of the glass.
